  • Fareed Zakaria: The return of the center

By now it is settled wisdom that we are witnessing the rise of radical forces on the left and right around the globe. Populists of both varieties, who share a disdain for globalization, are energized, and certain that the future is going their way. But the center is rising again, even in the heart of the old world.

Consider Emmanuel Macron, the 39-year-old former Rothschild banker who is currently the odds-on favorite to become France’s next president. Polls indicate that the far-right candidate, Marine Le Pen, is leading the field of candidates in the first round with about 25 percent of the vote. But in the second round, which pits only the two front-runners against one another, Macron is projected to beat her handily. Keep in mind that Macron is emphatically in favor of free markets, globalization, the European Union and the trans-Atlantic alliance — and yet he is surging in a country often defined by its strong labor unions, skepticism of capitalism and distrust of America.
Europeans and Americans sense that a stagnation has set into the economics and politics of the West. They are frustrated with business as usual and see the established order as corrupt, paralyzed and out of touch. Macron’s campaign is working because it is brimming with energy. His new party is called “On the Move!”; his campaign book is titled “Revolution.”

    Edit to add

A poll by Odoxa/Dentsu-Consulting showed 39-year-old Macron, a former economy minister running without the support of any traditional political party, would beat Le Pen in the runoff with 61 percent of the vote, versus 39 percent for her.

It is not time to recognize a Palestinian state, says French presidential front-runner

The important task now is to create an atmosphere that will enable a peace process to be launched, the 39-year-old said in an interview on the Jewish community Radio J station in Paris.

French Jewish leader: Our democracy is in ‘real danger’

There is a “real danger” that France’s democracy will be destroyed by its next president, the leader of the country’s federation of Jewish communities warned ahead of the elections.

Francis Kalifat, the president of the CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish communities, sounded the alarm during an interview Friday with the RJC Jewish radio station ahead of the first round of voting Sunday of the presidential elections.
CRIF has flagged both Melenchon and Le Pen as “candidates of hatred.”

German anti-immigrant party set to go further right after leader suffers defeat

They voted against discussing Petry's motion or another proposal in which she and others said the AfD should reject "racist, anti-Semitic ... and nationalist ideologies".
The party, a pariah in German politics, has seen its support drop in recent months, and thousands turned up to protest the congress and the party's anti-immigrant stance.

Le Pen-Putin friendship goes back a long way

There’s a curious painting on the wall in Marine Le Pen's headquarters in the chic 8th arrondissement in Paris.
It shows the far-right candidate in the French presidential election with the Russian and US presidents on either side. On a black background, in the style of the Soviet era, Le Pen, Vladimir Putin, and Donald Trump gaze out to a common horizon.

In the European Parliament, the 22 FN MEPs vote as one man as soon as it is to defend Russian interests. She got it as a gift from a Russian nationalist activist whom she met in Paris a few days after she met Putin in Moscow on 24 March.

Russian chief rabbi: France’s Jews should leave if Le Pen wins

Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar called on French Jews to leave their country if the far right politician Marine Le Pen is elected president next month.
“If Marine Le Pen is elected president of France, the Jews must leave,” Lazar said, according to a transcription of his address at the conference provided by Limmud FSU. Lazar was a keynote speaker at the event, which drew 2,500 participants — a record attendance since Limmud FSU began holding conferences across the former Soviet Union.

France exit polls show Macron and Le Pen winning first round of presidential election

Global markets breathed a sigh of relief to see establishment candidate Macron receive the largest portion of votes in the first round.

Centrist Emmanuel Macron of the independent En Marche party secured the lion's share of votes in Sunday's preliminary election at 24 percent, with the far-right's Marine Le Pen of France's National Front party trailing narrowly behind at 22 percent, according to Harris poll estimates. Official results are only due in the next couple of days.

Projections say Macron, Le Pen go through to runoff in French vote

Macron favors gradual deregulation measures that will be welcomed by global financial markets, while Le Pen wants to ditch the euro currency and possibly pull out of the EU.
              http://www.jpost.com/International/P...ch-vote-488754

The two politicians are completely opposed to each other on many key issues with Macron being a cheerleader for a more outward looking, globalist France and Le Pen advocating a nationalist approach.

The Russians are using 'a new style of attack' against France's frontrunner candidate

A hacking group linked by cybersecurity experts to Russia's military intelligence apparatus has begun taking aim at France's centrist presidential candidate, Emmanuel Macron, the cybersecurity firm Trend Micro said in a report published on Tuesday.
On March 15, the group — known as Fancy Bear, Pawn Storm, Sednit, APT28, Sofacy, or STRONTIUM — began registering domain names such as "onedrive-en-marche.fr" and "mail-en-marche.fr" in an attempt to trick members of Macron's campaign team into clicking on links that looked affiliated with his political party, En Marche.
"A huge revelation in this Trend Micro report is that Fancy Bear has significantly upped the sophistication of its cyber attacks," said Greg Martin, the CEO of cybersecurity firm JASK. "They're taking advantage of vulnerabilities in cloud-based email services like Gmail to trick people into downloading fake applications, and compromising their inboxes without even having to steal a password."

Macron wins French presidency by emphatic margin: projections

Emmanuel Macron was elected president of France on Sunday with a business-friendly vision of European integration, defeating Marine Le Pen, a far-right nationalist who threatened to take France out of the European Union, early projections showed.

I know this is all a part of prophecy being fulfilled, but when the likes of linda sarsour are happy about macron, you know it's not a good thing for him to have won. sarsour is a ravenous wolf clothed in the left's ignorance.

Just to be clear .. The world's political right is not right either. All those "of the world" seek to do that which is right in their own eyes.
